Ratlikeart is a Cleveland based multi-media artist…
with a love for bold design and storytelling through unique characters. Often described as a loving homage to the world of vintage horror, camp queer sensibilities and adult western animation Johnny’s work invokes both a sense of excitement and nostalgia, it is simultaneously intentionally shocking and comforting through careful reference to pop-culture aesthetics of the 00’s covered in a thick coat of absurdity and experimentation. While primarily associated with traditional pen work Johnny’s style is immense in scope, switching mediums frequently and often praised for aesthetic consistency through each endeavor. Works are filled with lively, visceral texture either manually crafted or digitally scanned and selected and rarely is any given piece made from only one tool. They predominantly work within the Cleveland area in both commercial and fine art spaces participating in and curating gallery shows surrounding themes of nostalgia, gender and sexuality. However, in their commercial work you can find a refined modernization of traditional alternative aesthetics which prove to be more marketable and timeless with each passing year. They have over half a decade of professional experience within both graphic design and illustration spaces working for nationwide companies and large bands to small upstarts and other local artists. When not making art they enjoy reading comics, taking walks through the various beautiful parks of Ohio, supporting local musicians and spending time with friends.
